Mr John Hogan, was the Diocese’s Seventh Cathedral organist, ninth Director of the Choir, the first Organist and Director of Music and first lay Diocesan Director of Sacred Music at Sacred Heart Cathedral. He retired after 40 years of dedicated service after his last official mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral on 22 November 2020, a date specifically chosen by him as it was the Feast of Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians.
On Sunday 2 May 2021 people from across the Diocese gathered to pay tribute to Mr Hogan at a special luncheon at the All Seasons Motor Inn in Bendigo.
We share the speeches of Mr Hogan’s former student and current Organist and Director of Music, Mr Paul Taylor, and long-time chorister Ms Wilma McCormack.
